Delivery Point Verification is a process whereby the mailer is able to mitigate their postage rate by providing the post office with data which is guaranteed deliverable to the address. Unlike Cass certification which determines an address to be within an acceptable range in a zip code, delivery point verification guarantees that the address which is mailed to is an address that can be delivered to. For instance, Main Street, USA, zip code 12345, has addresses which run between 100 thru 1,000. Cass certification merely determines that 555 main street is within that range. The problem is, 555 main street does not exist. DPV (delivery point verification) would OMIT 555 or change it to the correct address (557) saving the post office and the mailer, time and money.
